Confession

I have a confession to make.  Ever since my husband and I got married we have tithed 10% of our income to both of our churches and the Christian community we belong to.  This month with our lovely influx of income, we will be contributing almost $1,000 to our "causes".  Admittedly, in 2012 we committed to an extra 1% of income for mission work at one of our churches.

I normally don't give it a second thought.  I'm so glad that we have been blessed enough by God to be able to afford to be generous, and faithful to tithing. But sometimes I think about how much further we would be on our debt reduction journey if we didn't give.  Bad Gina.  How can I live with myself?  Well first of all, I am still tithing so that helps assuage my guilt.

The thing that I sometimes forget is that all of our "riches" come from God and we are just stewards of this money.  Its not ours and God has given us our marching orders.  Perhaps we're doing as well as we are because God is rewarding us for our steadfast giving, despite the layoff and being in massive debt.  Which is a place God never wanted us to be in the first place.
